The toning step. Hailed by some, and shunned by others. The skin care community as a whole is divided. In the 10-step Korean skincare routine, it is crucial and a step you should not skip. Other skin care gurus, like Tiffany Masterson, founder of Drunk Elephant – doesn’t believe in it.
I believe that every person’s skin is different. You have to find what works for you. This is evident between the two of us that runs Ggool tip. What works for me won’t always work for Rana and vice versa. That’s biology for you. For me, the toner has become the step that calms and soothes my skin. If I have the right product that is. Keep in my mind that your skin condition varies depending on the season. My skin certainly does! It is dry and somehow very oily at the same time in the summer, and in winter it is dry-dry-dryyy and very itchy. That’s why a soothing toner stored in the fridge is my favorite skincare step.
Korean toners supply the skin with hydration and moisture. They prepare the skin to receive the rest of your routine. I prefer my toner to be packed with moisturizing and hydrating ingredients. The texture and feel of the toner are also important for me. It shouldn’t be too thick, but not too light and runny either.
The Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner is a take on the Klairs Supple Preparation Toner. Unlike the original version, this unscented version doesn’t contain the essential oils. The removal of the essential oils means that the unscented toner has no fragrance at all (which is super for my sensitive acne prone skin!). It also has a lighter texture that absorbs fast into the skin. With licorice extract, amino acids and aloe leaf extract this toner remove excess dirt and sebum without irritating the skin. This formula checks all my toner preferences.
I was using this when I got my hands on the Etude House Soon Jung Toner. I couldn’t contain myself and put the Klairs toner on hold and stored it in the fridge. When I ran out of the Soon Jung toner I started using this again. My first impression of the Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner was kind of ‘meh’ as I couldn’t really feel or see any changes. But, to see any effects with any skincare product you start using you have to give it some time. A consistent routine is a key to good skin. That means, give your skin at least 2 weeks to get used to a product before you introduce another new product. In this case, the toner started to show it’s effect after consistent use for around a month. These days I notice how it provides my skin with ample moisture and calming properties. It even works well on the days I use my Wishtrend Pure Vitamin C 21.5% Advanced Serum!
Application
I usually apply the Klairs Supple Preparation Unscented Toner with a Klairs Toner Mate 2-in-1 Cotton Pad all over my face. Sometimes I apply with my hands and tap rub/tap it gently in as well. I do this if my skin is particularly dry or sensitive that day. I’ve started to store my toner inside the fridge at all times. It makes the toner so soothing! I love the feeling it gives my skin after a long hot summer day. The texture is light, but not runny and it is easy to spread out.
Bottom line
This is a great toner that I’ve grown to like very much. It pairs well with my skin and has a pleasant feeling (especially when kept in the fridge!). Initially, I didn’t think it was all that, I’ll admit to that. But, when I gave it some time it was able to show it benefits. I like that it has no scent and no irritants in it. I will probably buy this product again!
