Did the Etude House Soon Jung series save my skin?

Sensitive, red and acne prone skin. If that is triggering for you to read – I can relate. I struggle with that every day. My skin needs the utmost care with both soothing and hydrating ingredients. Etude House’s Soon Jung series of products promise all that and more.

It started when Rana tried the Whip Cleanser and thought it was kinda ‘meh’ (read her review here). She gave the rest of the bottle for me to try out. To my surprise, my skin reacted very well to this cleanser. I had a period with very calm and non-irritated skin while using it up.
I’ve been trying to use products with minor amounts of acids and gentle ingredients. I had a period at the start of May where my skin freaked out with inflamed, bumps and comedones. This is why I wanted to commit to the Soon Jung series to see if it lives up to the hype.
ETUDE HOUSE – Soon Jung pH 6.5 Whip Cleanser

This foam cleanser is supposed to be for those with super sensitive skin (sign me up!). It boasts 10 toxic-free ingredients and it calms and soothes the sensitive skin. Among those are the star ingredients: Panthenol and madecassoside. These ingredients strengthen the skin barrier and heal damaged skin. This is one of my favorite cleansers I’ve ever tried. I always get taut and dry skin when I wash my face with other cleansers I’ve tried, but not with this one. Hallelujah!!
ETUDE HOUSE – Soon Jung pH 5.5 Relief Toner

Panthenol and madecassoside are present in this toner as well. It is so calming and soothing. It helps to calm down if I have particularly sensitive skin one day. For instance, sitting in a dry office for 8 hours (like I do every day). I love to store it in my fridge to make it even more soothing! The toner is very lightweight and applies easily. I usually use a Klairs cotton pad soaked in the stuff, but you can also pat it into the skin.

ETUDE HOUSE – Soon Jung 2x Barrier Intensive Cream

This cream is moisturizing, soothing and calming. It has the same ingredients as the cleanser and toner, panthenol and madecassoside. I can testify to the moisturizing and calming properties of this cream! I usually opt for Skin Watcher’s ceramizing cream. But I think it’s Skin Watcher’s cream knocked down to second place now. Sorry Skin Watcher’s, Etude House hit the nail on the head with this one.
ETUDE HOUSE – Soon Jung 5-Panthensoside Cica Balm

This is one of the products that I kind of feel ambivalent about, it could be because I haven’t used it much yet. It is a spot treatment, but spot treatments are something I usually forget to use! Yet, with “Panthensoside” (panthenol and madecassoside in one word) you can’t go wrong. I will stick with this and see if I get some results with it since I like all the above-mentioned products.
So, to answer my own question… Did the Soon Jung line really save my skin? I think it might be an overstatement. There are so many things that factor into if you have healthy skin or not. It could be hormones that caused my big breakout, it could be stress, it could be a bad diet… It could have been many things. But, you’re far better off sticking to a regular routine and commit to products. This is much better than ditching a product because it doesn’t work right away. The Soon Jung line suits my skin type well, and I will definitely stick to it as much as I can in the future.
