Snow White and her Korean Skin Care

In my eyes, Korea is the mecca for skin products. Korean skin products offer endless help no matter what needs your skin has. Lately, I’ve been getting into whitening and brightening products. But what are these supposed to do for your skin?

So, the first thing I think off when I see something labeled with “whitening” or “brightening” is basically, ” I don’t wanna end up like MJ”. However, these products won’t make your skin a shade or two lighter. What Koreans love is the ideal concept of perfect skin; pearly, dewy, spot-less and luminous. The ultimate goal is a flawless almost transparent finish to their skin.

When Korean skin whitening products claim to whiten, expect overall lightening as well as getting rid of darker splotches, sunspots, and literally depigmentation. Fading dark spots and acne scars for an even skin tone is one of my biggest favs when it comes to Korean beauty. There’s absolutely no “bleaching” of the skin involved. A product that claims to be whitening just means it helps to even out skin tone and overall brighten the skin. These particular K-beauty products aren’t going to affect your skin tone negatively. Just try to understand how brightening products function so that you can choose whatever that will work towards your specific skin care goals.

So, what do these products do?

Ingredients, such as vitamin C, licorice root extract or mulberry extract helps to gently break down the melanin clusters that cause unwanted freckles or spots, and even out the skin tone by getting rid of dead skin cells by helping the skin renews itself.  Niacinamide brightens the appearance of skin, while Bamboo Sap, Bamboo Shoot Extract, and Lavender Extract soothe inflamed and irritated skin while helping reduce skin blotchiness for a more even look. A lot of products also contain snail filtrate, AHA, BHA, and niacinamide. Niacinamide is oft-mentioned ingredient when it comes to brightening skin care products – and with good reason. This ingredient, long for Vitamin B3 is one of the best you can choose for skin care and health at large. It improves elasticity, enhances the skin barrier function, and help to diminish discoloration and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation which reviews the skin tone and texture.

Few Faves
In the end, I discovered that the term whitening is a poor translation of the word brightening and nowadays, most girls smack on multiple layers with highlighter on their faces, and this is literally the same – it just works in a different way.  I quickly learned that they do not cause any more harm than our current arsenal of beauty go-to’s but instead help us find that glow.
my favorites include:

  1. Tony Moly Panda’s Dream White Sleeping Pack (read about it here)
  2. 3CE White Milk Sleeping Pack
  3. COSRX Galactomyces 95 Whitening Power Essence
  4. Etude House Berry AHA Bright Peel Mild Gel (read about it here)

I am so happy I learned the true definition of whitening and that I started using these types of products. So far, the results have been great and my skin is as glowy and radiant as ever!
